Affiliate marketing’s popularity, and its performance, are both full steam ahead. This Modern Retail piece shows that affiliate marketing investment reached $9.1 billion in 2021, a 47% increase over a previous report released in 2018. From the rise of influencers/creators to more involvement in the PR world, the current affiliate playbook certainly is changing the future of DTC brands.


Spend or Save?

Many companies are tightening their belts when it comes to ad spend, including Meta, Roku, Pinterest, and Microsoft. Yet, it's not entirely clear if we're in a recession (or not). Should that become a reality, a lot of experts warn against shrinking budgets. This Marketing Brew article shows a study by Analytic Partners that found that brands that reduced ad spend during the last recession “risked losing 15% of their business to competitors who boosted theirs.” That’s quite a chunk to let go of…


Rise of B2B Influencers

B2B brands are cozying up to the idea of influencer marketing, with 86% of brands reporting being “successful” with influencer marketing. Other benefits include improved brand reputation and awareness. So, what does a B2B influencer look like? Search Engine Journal lists the following (in order of popularity): industry experts and analysts, internal executives, niche experts, customers, professional influencers, employees, prospects.

For some online retailers, the pandemic presented a time to shine. Now, how can those retailers make sure they keep the customers they gained over that time span? Especially when many brick-and-mortar stores “upped their game,” offering options like buy online/pick up in store?
