The Holidays Won’t Wait

It seems like just a few weeks ago that we were touching on back-to-school shopping—how did we already get to the holidays? It’s super important, though, to start planning your holiday marketing now. Or, as Total Retail states, “yesterday.” This article notes that in 2021, 31% of people surveyed had begun their holiday shopping in June! Some great tips here, including how to approach an increase in in-store shopping this season.

Retail’s Impatience Factor

Have you heard of the “impatience economy”? According to Forbes Senior Contributor Roslyn Layton, it’s all about “delighting consumers with instant, easy purchasing via social media engagement.” Apparently, it’s also a post-pandemic thing. After what we’ve been through, it’s no wonder many of us are short on patience. Augie Fabela, author of The Impatience Economy: How Social Retail Marketing™Changes Everything, notes that the socials might even overtake Amazon if platforms are able to streamline the shopping experience.

Who’s the Grown-Up in the Room?

Looking back at the rise of influencer marketing, it’s fair to say how far it has come. Gone are the days of brand misalignment, lack of creativity, and perhaps the worst of all—influencer marketing that was clearly, blatantly staged. Now, PerformanceIN contributor Lauren McFarland says we’re in the era of “grown-up” influencer marketing… where marketing thinks strategically–not tactically. Read on to see exactly what she means.

Marketers Bet on Travel

If you or someone you know experienced pricey airfare, lost luggage, travel delays (or worse, cancellations), you’re not alone. Marketing Brew contributor Minda Smiley says advertisers are partly to blame! That’s because ad spend in the travel sector increased to $2.1 billion in the first half of 2022, an 83% increase compared to the same period last year. The second half of 2022 is expected to see travel brands spending 27% more than initially intended. If you’re a marketer in the travel industry, it makes you think about where to best spend those dollars (ahem, affiliate marketing).
